LADB concurs with ODC suggestion for disbarment of attorney Greg Williams Sr.

NEW ORLEANS – In a July 1 recommendation to the Louisiana Supreme Court, the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board (LADB) accepted the formal charges filed by the Office of Disciplinary Council (ODC) against attorney Gregory F. Williams Sr. to have him permanently disbarred for alleged engagement in criminal conduct, deceitful conduct, conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice and violating Louisiana Rules of Professional Conduct.

ODC suggests permanent disbarment for attorney Janinne Latrell Gilbert

NEW ORLEANS – The Office of Disciplinary Council (ODC) submitted formal charges on July 8 against attorney Janinne Latrell Gilbert over allegations that Gilbert violated several Rules of Professional Conduct.

NEW ORLEANS – In a July 1 recommendation to the Louisiana Supreme Court, the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board (LADB) accepted the formal charges filed by the Office of Disciplinary Council (ODC) against attorney Hugh E. McNeely to be suspended for three years with all but one year deferred subject to a two-year period of probation, and possible additional repercussions if he chooses to return to the profession, for alleged failures in multiple rules of professional conduct.

Jeffrey N. Aldous publicly reprimanded for allegedly unprofessional conduct

NEW ORLEANS – In a June 17 petition to the Louisiana Supreme Court, the Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC) requested the “imposition of reciprocal discipline” against attorney Jeffrey N. Aldous, who is licensed to practice law in Louisiana and Utah, based upon discipline imposed by the Ethics and Discipline Committee of the Utah Supreme Court because of an alleged failure to communicate with a client and a lack of cooperation during the investigation.

LASC suspends attorney Todd C. Martin for one year

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –In a June 17 report by the Louisiana Supreme Court, the Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC) has commenced an investigation into allegations that attorney Todd Cooper Martin mishandled his client’s trust account. 42-year-old Martin practices law in Monroe.

LASC transfers tort attorney Daniel Becnel Jr. to disability inactive status

NEW ORLEANS – The Louisiana Supreme Court filed an order June 24, in regards to well-established tort lawyer Daniel E. Becnel Jr. to transfer him to disability inactive status due to his struggles with health issues.

LASC approves petition for 'reciprocal discipline;' Kelly Ward suspended 2 years in 2 states

NEW ORLEANS – In a June 17 petition to the Louisiana Supreme Court, the Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC) requested the “imposition of reciprocal discipline” against attorney Kelly P. Ward, who is licensed to practice law in Louisiana and Illinois, based upon discipline imposed by the Illinois Supreme Court for repeated appearances in court while under the influence of alcohol.

NEW ORLEANS – In a June 10 recommendation to the Louisiana Supreme Court, the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board (LADB) accepted the formal charges filed by the Office of Disciplinary Council (ODC) against attorney Mitchell M. Evans, II to be suspended for three years for alleged professional misconduct in three separate cases.

NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlin Gusman recently agreed to relinquish operational control over the Orleans Parish Prison to an independent jail compliance director, settling a suit filed last month in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

Louisiana joins 21-state suit against Delaware for $150 million in unclaimed checks

BATON ROUGE – Attorneys general from 21 states, including Louisiana, are suing Delaware, claiming that the state has wrongly held onto at least $150 million in uncashed Moneygram checks that should be going to other states.

Louisiana AG victorious as Supreme Court ruling squashes Obama's immigration amnesty program

BATON ROUGE – Louisiana Attorney General applauded the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on Thursday that  effectively stalled a controversial amnesty program pushed by the Obama administration to reform immigration policy meant to pave the way for 4.5 million undocumented immigrants to gain legal status and protect them from deportation. 

AIDS Healthcare Foundation hopes settlement resolves conflict among other agencies

AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), which is the largest clinic provider in the East Baton Rouge parish and services more than 1,500 patients, most of whom are HIV positive, accused Baton Rouge of abusing its authority in the awarding of Ryan White Care Act funding for only three eight services provided by AHF. They filed a suit against the city to dispute the limited funding, and the issue was settled in late April.

Tulane Law dean contributes to legal education talks at Chinese conference

NEW ORLEANS — Tulane University Law School Dean David Meyer recently returned from Beijing, where he joined university deans from Canada, Australia, Switzerland, Singapore and China as featured guests at the Global Legal Education at a Crossroads  conference last month.
