NEW ORLEANS – A Madison, Miss. woman is suing a local hotel after she claims she was stuck in an elevator in its parking garage.
Jeanette M. Jackson filed suit on April 4 against Historic Preservation, Wyndham Hotels and their insurers in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court.
Jackson claims she was ascending the elevator to return to her car parked at the hotel parking garage at 800 Iberville St. when the elevator suddenly stopped between the 3rd and 4th floors.
The plaintiff alleges she screamed for help for 20 minutes before a hotel employee pried the doors open and let her out. Jackson also claims it became unbearably hot inside the elevator when she was stuck and that when the employee opened the door he did not offer assistance in helping her out of the elevator and she fell to the ground. The plaintiff asserts she received bodily injury in the fall and experienced emotional distress, great fear and anxiety.
The defendants are accused of failing to maintain a safe environment, safety of others, failing to maintain the elevators, negligently enforcing policies to prevent the incident, failing to exercise due care and negligently allowing an unreasonable condition.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, mental anguish, medical expenses and loss of earnings.
Jackson is being represented by New Orleans-based attorney Jonathan C. Pedersen.
The case has been assigned to Division C Judge Sidney H. Cates.
