Laquelia Richard filed suit against Target Corp. of Minnesota, Coca-Cola Refreshments USA, Inc. and their insurers in the 24th Judicial District Court. Richard claims she was shopping at the Target located at Manhattan Boulevard in Harvey when three or four 12-packs of soda fell off a shelf onto her foot.
Target is accused of failing to maintain its premises, allowing a dangerous condition to exist on its premises, failing to instruct its employees to secure the property and stacking too many cases of products on the aisle.
The defendant Coca-Cola Refreshments is accused of failing to exercise reasonable care, not seeing what should have been seen, failing to maintain reasonable and proper control and stacking too many cases of products in the aisle.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for severe and disabling injuries, medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, mental pain and anguish, loss of wages, loss of earning capacity and permanent disability.
Richard is represented by attorney Preston G. Sutherland of New Orleans.
The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Robert M. Murphy.
