Bally Total Fitness trainer sued for failing to assist falling client

BATON ROUGE – An East Baton Rouge Parish woman is suing a local fitness center and one of its personal trainers after an exercise during a training session went wrong causing her to fall and sustain bodily injury.

Laurie C. Randall filed a lawsuit against Fitness Ventures LLC, Bally Total Fitness, Gregory Liem - the trainer employed by Bally and Hanover Insurance Company in the 19th Judicial District Court.

Randall claims that towards the end of her set of modified assisted pull-ups, in which she used resistance bands selected and provided by Liem, as she attempted to dismount, suddenly and without warning the resistance band propelled her several feet backward causing her to fracture a bone in her hand and pain to her left hand and arm, pain to the left side of her ribs and her back. Randall also claims that Liem did not assist her during or after the accident.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain proper supervision of a client, failing to see what should have been seen, failing to assist client in dismounting the exercise device, failing to select equipment appropriate for plaintiff’s size and ability and failure to supervise its employees.

The plaintiff is seeking compensation for pain and suffering, medical expenses, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life and inconvenience.

This case has been assigned to Section 23 Judge William A. Morvant.
