BATON ROUGE – Contractors responsible for the construction of the gangway on the premises of a riverboat casino are being sued by an electric employee who claims he was injured.

Donald Methvien, and wife Shelia, filed a lawsuit against Manhattan Construction Company in the 19th Judicial District Court on Feb. 27. The plaintiff alleges that while walking on the gangway to the casino to hold a safety meeting he slipped and fell due to improperly secured roofing paper that was on the walking surface.

The defendant is accused of negligence and failing to properly secure roofing paper to its surface.

The plaintiffs claim that the amount that should be received for the disabling injury to the plaintiff's lumbar spine, pain and suffering, mental anguish, lost wages, medical expenses, loss of consortium and support damages exceeds $50,000.

Attorney Thomas M. Discon of Mandeville will represent plaintiffs.

This case has been assigned to Section 25 Judge Wilson E. Fields.

Case no. 619512.
