NEW ORLEANS – A New Orleans hospital is suing a California-based production company claiming it caused damages to the hospital property they it leased for the filming of a movie.
Hospital Service District for the Parish of Orleans District A filed suit against Hours Production Company and Albert G. Ruben Insurance Services Inc. in the Orleans Parish Central District Court on May 1.
The Hospital Service District claims it entered into a contract with Hours Production Company for the sublease of the former Pendleton Memorial Hospital for the filming of a motion picture. The plaintiff alleges that during filming the defendant repeatedly returned on and off the water in the building which resulted in damage to the building, water lines and a fire hydrant. The Hospital Service District asserts the seals on the water lines were damaged during the sublease period and water leaked under their building as well as an adjacent building.
The plaintiff claims extensive removal services were necessary to rid the area of water and sand had to later be pumped in underneath the building to fill erosion caused by water intrusion.
The defendant is accused of gross negligence, carelessness and fault.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for costs of pumping out water, removal and replacement of damaged water line, replacement costs for a damaged fire hydrant, cost to pump sand beneath building and the cost of water wasted by the leak.
The plaintiff is represented by Bernard L. Charbonnet Jr. of New Orleans-based Law Office of Bernard L. Charbonnet Jr.
The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Paulette R. Irons.
