GRETNA – A woman who claims she received a serious burn on her face while undergoing a facial peel at local clinic is suing.

Jenny O. Browning filed suit against American Laser Skincare, Bellus ALC of Louisiana LLC and Vergie Distefano in the 24th Judicial District Court on Oct. 4.

Browning claims that she had a facial peel treatment, microdermabrasion and fotofacials done at American Laser on Sept. 10. The plaintiff alleges that during the fotofacials treatment, which uses an intense pulsed light to treat age spots, her face was severely burned. Browning asserts that the burn resulted in a permanent scar.

The defendant is accused of medical malpractice, negligence, breach of contract and violation of state law.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, psychological disability, loss of enjoyment of life and court costs.

Browning is represented by attorney Richard J. Fernandez of Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Stephen C. Grefer.

Case no. 731-723.
