GRETNA – A former graduate student who hired a local law firm to represent him in an auto accident lawsuit is suing on legal malpractice grounds for allegedly not filing his claim in time.

Vasilios Korominos filed suit against Arthur D. Dupre; Leefe, Gibbs, Sullivan & Dupre LLC and Continental Casualty Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on Dec. 23.

Korominos claims that on Feb. 23, 2012 he was traveling east on Robert E. Lee Blvd. in New Orleans when he was struck by a vehicle owned by Enterprise FM Trust. The plaintiff asserts that he was injured in the accident including total disability, his car was a total loss and that the driver Marly Allen Watts was cited for failure to yield. Korominos alleges that he hired Arthur D. Dupre as a partner of the law firm Leefe, Gibbs, Sullivan & Dupre LLC to represent him in a personal injury auto accident lawsuit against Enterprise FM Trust and Watts.

The plaintiff claims that his attorney failed to timely file suit and he lost his ability to pursue damages from the responsible driver in the accident. Korominos asserts he also had to drop out of graduate school due to his injuries and no longer has a functioning vehicle.

The defendant is accused of legal malpractice.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, emotional distress, medical expenses, loss of enjoyment of life and damage to educational pursuits.

Korominos is represented by T. Carey Wicker of New Orleans-based Capitelli & Wicker.

The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Scott U. Schlegel.

Case no. 734-065.
