GRETNA – Marriott is being sued by one of its customers who was allegedly injured after slipping and falling while entering an elevator on the premises.
Lauren A. Welch filed suit against Marriott Hotel Services Inc., Marriott’s Ko Olina Beach Club, Marriott Ownership Resorts and Marriott Vacation Club International in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 30.
Welch contends on June 28, 2013 she was arriving for a vacation at the Marriott’s Ko Olina Beach Club when she stepped on a slick spot in the elevator and fell to the floor. The plaintiff asserts she broke her foot and her tooth in the incident.
The defendant is accused of allowing a slick surface to be present on the elevator floor, failing to monitor the floor’s condition, creating a hazard and improperly training and supervising employees.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for loss of enjoyment of life, physical disability, mental pain and suffering and medical expenses.
Welch is represented by Hilliard F. Kelly of New Orleans-based McCranie, Sistrunk, Anzelmo, Hardy, McDaniel and Welch.
The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Henry G. Sullivan Jr.
