GRETNA – A local shopping mall is being sued by a patron who claims she was severely injured after falling on its premises.

Semia T. Abajabel filed suit against Greater Lakeside Corporation, Broadwall Management Corporation and U.S. Specialty Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on Sept. 5.

Abajabel claims that she was shopping at the Macy’s located in the Lakeside Mall located at 3301 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie when she stepped in a puddle of water and fell to the ground while exiting the store. The plaintiff alleges that there were no signs warning of the danger in the area of the water. Abajabel contends she was injured in the incident.

The defendant is accused of allowing a condition that created an unreasonable risk of harm, failing to warn of an unreasonably dangerous condition, failing to provide a safe place to walk, failing to remedy unreasonably dangerous conditions, failing to exercise reasonable care to clean up and not preventing the damage.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physicians’ professional services, prescription medications, pain and suffering, loss of wages, medical expenses, permanent disability and loss of enjoyment of life.

Abajabel is represented by Seth M. Schaumburg of Favret, Demarest, Russo & Lutkewitte of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Raymond S. Steib Jr.

Case no. 742-054.
