Office manager sued for allegedly embezzling $23K from employer

Embezzlement

GRETNA – A former office manager of a financial group is being sued for allegedly stealing $23,000 during the course of her employment.

Total Financial Group LLC filed suit against Lisa M. Davis in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 5.

Total Financial Group alleges it employed Davis as an office manager beginning on Dec. 14, 2012 and remained employed there until her termination in May 2013. The plaintiff contends that during the defendant’s employment she had access to and handled employee payroll, including her own that was $809.84 every other week, which she allegedly used to fraudulently provide herself with unauthorized “bonuses” worth thousands of dollars.

In all, Total Financial Group asserts that over her employment Davis on several instances paid herself more than she was owed that eventually amounted to $23,000. In addition, the plaintiff claims Davis has failed to return the funds despite receiving a demand to do so, arrested and being criminally charged for the purported theft.

The defendant is accused of fraud and theft.

Damages in the amount of $23,000 plus legal costs and attorney’s fees are sought by the plaintiff.

Total Financial Group is represented by John S. Lawrence Jr. of Mandeville-based Lawrence & Associates.

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Cornelius E. Regan.

Case no. 746-491.
