Suit filed over I-10 service road accident

A suit filed April 21 in Orleans Parish District Court seeks damages over severe and disabling injuries sustained in an accident that occurred last year on Read Boulevard, an Interstate 10 service road.

Tara James is suing Warren V. Cooper Jr. and Allstate Insurance Co., claiming Cooper failed to maintain control of his vehicle.

The accident occurred on June 1, 2009.

James claims Cooper is negligent for failing to see what he should have seen, failing to keep a good lookout, failing to maintain proper control of the vehicle, driving at an unreasonable speed, operating the vehicle in a reckless and careless manner, and improper lane usage.

James is seeking damages for past and future physical pain and suffering, mental pain and suffering, rental expenses, property damages, loss of use and/or depreciation of vehicle, medical expenses, lost earnings, loss of future earning capacity, permanent disability, loss of consortium, loss of enjoyment of life, penalties, attorney's fees and interest.

Attorneys Edward J. Womac Jr., Jason F. Giles, Brian King, Matthew Sutton, Brian J. Branch, Douglas J. Womac Jr., Christopher Williamson and Anthony J. Milazzo III of Edward J. Womac Jr. & Associates of New Orleans are representing James. A jury trial is requested.

Judge Robin M. Giarrusso is assigned to the case.
