New Orleans company sued after escalator fails

Two Louisiana residents are suing a New Orleans company after the escalator they were riding on allegedly failed and threw them to the floor.

Claiming they are suffering a permanent disability because of the incident, Chris Jackson and Amahry Jackson filed suit against Audubon Nature Institute and XYZ Insurance Co. June 24 in Orleans Parish District Court.

The petitioners state that in June 2009, they were riding on the escalator when a sudden failure caused it to stop abruptly, throwing the couple to the floor. The Jacksons claim the incident caused serious personal, progressive and permanent injuries to their legs, shoulders and knees.

They are seeking damages for economic losses, physical pain and suffering, permanent disability, mental anguish, emotional distress, medical expenses, court costs and interest.

Jackson is represented by attorney S. Douglas Busari of Tallulah.

Judge Kern A. Reese is assigned to the case.
