Barbier appoints plaintiff steering committee for BP MDL cases

Barbier

U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier has appointed 17 attorneys to serve in leadership roles in the federal multidistrict litigation (MDL) against BP and other companies associated with the Deepwater Horizon explosion and ensuing oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

The order, which was signed Oct. 8 in the Eastern District of Louisiana, appoints plaintiff liaison counsel Lafayette attorney James Parkerson Roy and New Orleans attorney Stephen Herman, along with Pensacola attorney Brian Barr and Dallas attorney Scott Summy to comprise the plaintiff executive committee.

Another 15 attorneys were appointed to the plaintiff steering committee and the order grants them the responsibility of arranging discovery, hearings and meetings, trial preparation and any other procedural motions involving plaintiff counsel.

The order states that the appointments to the committees are for one year from the date of the order.

A hearing has been set in this case for Oct. 15.
