Gulf Coast Claims Facility hires lawyers to help with BP oil spill claims

Feinberg

Ken Feinberg, administrator of the $20 billion Gulf Coast Claims Facility (GCCF), announced last week that several law firms have been hired to staff claims offices in the Gulf Coast.

The GCCF was formed by BP in response to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill disaster that has affected millions along the Gulf Coast.

Feinberg announced that lawyers will be made available in GCCF offices in Biloxi, Miss., eastern New Orleans and a number of Florida cities.

Feinberg announced that the lawyers at the facility would provide free help to applicants seeking claims through the GCCF. Plaintiff lawyers filed a motion in late December to limit Feinberg's actions and to define whether Feinberg and the GCCF are working independently or under BP.

To date, the GCCF has paid more than $2.65 billion to nearly 168,000 claimants since it was established.
