Carnival Cruise Lines files suit in BP MDL; Seeks $10 million claim with GCCF

The popular cruise line Carnival has jumped into the multidistrict litigation (MDL) surrounding the BP oil spill and Deepwater Horizon disaster.

Filed on the one-year anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion, Carnival's suit names BP, oilrig owner and operator Transocean, Halliburton and several other defendants with connections to the oil spill.

Florida attorneys Curtis Mase and John Salas filed the suit on behalf of Carnival.

The cruise line alleges six causes of action in its suit including fraudulent concealment by BP and its partners, violations of the Oil Pollution Act and negligence.

Carnival already filed a claim with the Gulf Coast Claims Facility back in November 2010, the suit states. The GCCF claim was filed after four interim claim requests were filed pursuant with OPA.

The Wall Strett Journal reported that Carnival's GCCF claim asked for $10 million. Carnival seeks unspecified damages in its lawsuit.

The lawsuit was filed in the Eastern District of Louisiana in New Orleans, where District Judge Carl Barbier is overseeing the BP MDL.
