A New Orleans woman is claiming property and medical damages as a result of a construction site operated by the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board (SWB), according to a suit filed in Orleans Parish Civil District Court.
Karen Robinson is suing the SWB, Fleming Construction Company and the Gray Insurance Company.
The suit claims that in the course of construction, debris was "forcefully driven into the front entrance of Plaintiffs' premises causing damage to the office equipment, appliances, fixtures, supplies, furniture, windows, ceilings, doors, walls, indoor surface areas and outdoor surface areas."
The suit also claims that Robinson "sought medical attention for airway inhalation treatments at New Orleans Urgent Care facility" due to inhaling dust particles.
Baton Rouge attorney Derrick Shelton filed the suit May 19.
The lawsuit does not name a specific amount sought for damages. It claims SWB was negligent in "failing to maintain a proper lookout", failing to implement proper safety precautions and "failing to warn plaintiff of damaging effects" of the construction site.
Robinson claims she suffered physical pain and suffering, lost wages and loss of income to her business.
Orleans Parish judge Paulette Irons is overseeing this case.
