Louisiana man claims Tramadol made him black out

A Louisiana man has filed a lawsuit against the makers of the pain medication Tramadol, after he suffered from a black-out episode and fell backwards striking his head resulting in a blood clot in his brain.

Russell Joseph Aucoin filed suit against Amneal Pharmaceuticals on May 27 in federal court in New Orleans.

According to the complaint, Aucoin suffered a blood clot in his brain on May 27, 2010.

Aucoin states he had previously suffered from falls allegedly as a result of the drug.

The drug's manufacturer is accused of failing to provide adequate drug testing, failing to fully disclose the results of the drug testing and failing to provide a full range of side effects and their seriousness.

"Defendant Amneal Pharmaceuticals knew or should have known that it manufactured or sold pharmaceuticals of such a nature that were likely to cause injury to persons taking them," the lawsuit states.

The plaintiff is seeking damages for bodily and physical injury, physical and mental pain and suffering, emotional injury, court costs and attorney's fees.

Aucoin is represented by LaPlace attorney Robert R. Faucheaux, Jr.

U.S. District Judge Lance M. Africk is assigned to the case.
