Customer sues after box falls and hits her

NEW ORLEANS - A Target customer has filed a lawsuit that accuses the retail store of failing to warn of the possible dangers associated with boxes falling.

Jan Mella Monnerjahn filed suit against the Target Corp. on Aug. 19, 2011 in St. Tammany Parish District Court. The defendant removed the case to federal court in New Orleans on Jan. 12.

Monnerjahn states that she suffered injuries on Aug. 20, 2010 while visiting the Target in Slidell. She states she injured her arm and shoulder when a heavy box fell from a large stand of similar boxes and hit her.

The plaintiff is asking the Court for an award of physical pain and suffering, emotional distress and mental anguish, loss of earnings and earning capacity, medical expenses, interest and court costs.

Monnerjahn is represented by Metairie attorney Stephen C. Juan and Kenner attorney Frank Brindisi.
