Finkelstein

NEW ORLEANS - A New Orleans woman is suing LSU Hospital for serious complications following a routine surgery.

Deborah Roberts filed suit on in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court against LSU Hospital and the doctors who performed the surgery.

Roberts claims she underwent an ultrasound that revealed several gallbladder growths and subsequently she underwent surgery to remove her gallbladder. The plaintiff claims she experienced complications following the surgery and returned to the hospital.

The defendants are alleged to have perforated the plaintiff's small intestine and colon resulting in a 12-day stay in the hospital's intensive care unit. Roberts claims the damage resulted in a worsening in her condition and new diagnoses of congestive heart failure, a collapsed lung, high blood pressure, adrenal gland insufficiency, abnormal heart rhythm and peritonitis.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages for physical and mental pain and anguish and the life threatening conditions resulting from the alleged mistakes made during the surgery.

The defendants are alleged to have performed the surgery in a negligent manner and the situation should have been avoided or at the very least the doctors should noticed their mistake, the suit claims.

Roberts is being represented by New Orleans-based attorney Marcia Finkelstein.

The case has been assigned to Division H Judge Michael G. Bagneris.
