NEW ORLEANS – A New Orleans man is suing a local grocery store for injuries he says he sustained when he slipped on a liquid and fell in the store.
Melvin Jourdan filed suit against Rouse's on Jan. 17 in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court.
Jourdan claims he was exiting the checkout line and going towards the exit of the Carrollton Avenue store when he slipped on a liquid and fell to the floor. The plaintiff claims he suffered injuries to his right knee and back due to the fall.
Jourdan alleges Rouse's is at fault for his injuries and claims the store was negligent for failing to inspect the floor, failing to implement safety procedures, failing to restrict access to the site, allowing the unsafe condition to exist, failing to take measures to clean up the spill, failing to detect and correct the condition, failing to warn of danger and creating an unreasonable risk for customers.
The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages for medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, mental and emotional pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, permanent physical disability and disfigurement, inconvenience, expenses and attorney and legal fees.
Jourdan is being represented by New Orleans-based attorney Randall J. Meyer.
The case has been assigned to Division C Judge Sidney H. Cates.
