City of Kenner sued for slip and fall at Pontchartrain Center

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing the owners and operators of a Kenner convention center for injuries she claims to have received on the property.

Marie M. Clesi and Marie Clesi Insurance Agency, Inc. filed suit on March 1 in the 24th Judicial District Court against the City of Kenner, SMG Holdings and Convention Center Management.

Clesi claims she was exiting the Pontchartrain Center at 4545 Williams Boulevard in Kenner when she was injured in a fall. She claims she received a broken ankle and a torn shoulder tendon in addition to numerous contusions and abrasions for tripping over an unspecified hazard.

The owners and operators of the Pontchartrain Center are accused of allowing the hazard to exist, creating an unreasonable risk of harm, creating a dangerous condition, not exercising reasonable care, allowing dangerous condition to go unnoticed or uncorrected, not warning the plaintiff of the hazard, not providing adequate lighting, not providing adequate striping, not providing a safe walking surface and improperly designing the pedestrian walkway.

Damages of more than $50,000 are being sought for loss of business income, pain and suffering, mental anguish, medical expenses, lost wages, disability and loss of enjoyment of life.

Clesi is being represented by Metairie-based attorney Leonard J. Cline.

The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Hans J. Liljeburg.
