Cox Cable sued by woman who tripped over exposed cable

DONALDSONVILLE – An Ascension Parish woman is suing a cable provider for injuries she claims stem from the company's negligence.

Lois Gonzales filed suit on May 25 against Cox Cable Louisiana, Inc. aka Cox Enterprises in the 23rd Judicial District Court. Gonzales claims Cox installed a cable at her neighbor's home, but despite a company policy to bury all cables after a two day period left the cable exposed and above the ground.

The plaintiff claims she was traveling by foot and carrying a watermelon when she tripped over the exposed cable and fell to the ground receiving injuries to her right wrist and shoulder, back, neck and other portions of her body,

The defendant is accused of negligence for causing the hazard, allowing an unreasonably dangerous condition to exist and not making the cable obvious to pedestrians.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for the plaintiff's treatment.

Gonzales is represented by attorney Steve Joffrion of Prairieville.

The case has been assigned to Division E Judge Alvin Turner, Jr.

Case number 103812.
