Gonzales Dollar General sued in slip and fall

DONALDSONVILLE – An Ascension Parish woman is suing a discount retailer for injuries she claims she received on the premises.

Kathy Lewis filed suit against Dolgencorp, LLC in the 23rd Judicial District Court on June 19. Lewis claims that she was shopping in the Dollar General located on Highway 30 in Gonzales when she slipped and fell on a wet floor that had just been recently mopped. The plaintiff claims she was injured in the fall. Lewis asserts a "wet floor" sign should have been placed at the site, but was not.

The defendant is accused of failing to keep the floors in a clean and safe condition, failing to keep premises free of hazardous conditions, failing to properly inspect the premises, failing to follow proper procedures for cleaning and inspection, allowing a dangerous substance to remain on the floor of the store and creating a the condition that resulted in the plaintiff's injuries.

Damages not to exceed $75,000 are sought for pain and suffering, mental anguish, physical disability, loss of income and loss of enjoyment of life.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge Guy Holdridge.
