NEW ORLEANS - After suffering extensive water damage, a Baptist church in New Orleans has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer of an allegedly defective water supply line coupling.
Oak Park Baptist Church and State Farm and Casualty Co. filed suit against Barbour Corp., Watts Water Technologies Inc., Travelers Property Casualty Co. of America, ABC Component Parts Manufacturer, and XYZ Seller on May 14 in Orleans Parish District Court. The defendants removed the case to federal court in New Orleans on June 25.
The alleged incident occurred on May 13, 2011 when the water supply line plastic coupling nut malfunctioned and failed causing flooding and extensive water damage to the church.
The defendants are accused of violating the Louisiana Products Liability Act by manufacturing an "unreasonably dangerous and defective" water supply line plastic coupling nut. The defendants are also accused of redhibition and breach of warranty.
The church is asking for an award of damages, interest, and court costs.
The plaintiffs are represented by Bonita Preuett-Armour and Leanne L. Bridges of Armour Law Firm in Alexandria. A jury trial is requested.
U.S. District Judge Jay C. Zainey is assigned to the case.
