Marine maintenance company sued by sale broker

NEW ORLEANS – An Indiana equipment sales company is suing a New Orleans business for not paying the entire commission on a sale.

Waterways Equipment Exchange, Inc. filed suit against RMM Maintenance and Repairs, LLC in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on July 5.

Paul Legeay, as a representative of Waterways Equipment Exchange, claims he brokered the sale of a barge between River Marine Group and the defendant with the defendant agreeing to pay a five percent brokerage fee for the deal. The plaintiff claims a deal was made between the defendant and the manufacturer for a $500,000 vessel that would have meant a $25,000 commission for the plaintiff. The plaintiff asserts that after the defendant requested a change order to have the barge extended the price increased from $500,000 to $609,000 and the commission should have raised to $29,000.

The defendant is accused of not paying the commission fee of $29,000.

Damages are sought in the amount of $29,000 plus associated legal costs.

Waterways Equipment Exchange is represented by New Orleans-based attorney Ryan P. Reece.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Tiffany G. Chase.

Case no. 2012-06534.
