Shoring company sued for alleged improper work on home lift

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing a New Orleans-based shoring company for allegedly doing improper and defective work when raising her home.

Antoinette Rose Calhoun filed suit against Foundation Restorations, LLC and H.C. Engineering, Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Aug. 2. Calhoun claims she entered into a contract with Foundation Restorations and H.C. Engineering to raise her home located at 6640 Benedict Drive in Marrero. The plaintiff alleges although the defendants performed work on the residence it was deficient and negligently performed.

The defendant is accused of failing to timely complete the work as agreed upon, failing to elevate the residence to the proper height, failing to properly supervise sub-contractors, failing to install and secure weepholes at correct height, failing to install plumbing properly, failing to install electric components, failing to properly anchor the residence, failing to install the pilings, failing to properly install necessary equipment to support the residence, failing to properly prepare the property for settlement and failing to install a porch as allegedly agreed upon.

An unspecified amount is sought for damage to appliances, damage to soil and property as a result of raw sewage leaking under the property, loss of enjoyment and use of property, expenses related to moving occupants to healthier surroundings, expense to correct deficient work and pest and snake infestation. The plaintiff is also seeking damages for medical expenses, loss of enjoyment of life, pain and suffering and anxiety related to breathing raw sewage.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Nancy A. Miller.
