Broken pinky leads to suit against mental health unit of LSU hospital

David R. Aden

NEW ORLEANS – A New Orleans woman is suing the behavioral health unit of a hospital for injuries she claims to have received on its premises.

Deondraneice Williams filed suit against in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on July 27.

Williams claims she was walking to the nurse's station when she slipped and fell due to water overflowing from a shower in a nearby room. The plaintiff alleges the shower did not have a shower curtain on it and she had previously notified the hospital staff of the situation but nothing was done to correct the problem. Williams asserts that she fractured her pinky finger in the fall.

The defendant is accused of not properly maintaining the shower, not removing water from the room where the plaintiff fell, not warning of the danger and not exercising reasonable care in association with a psychiatric patient.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for mental anguish, pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life and potential loss of ability to earn money.

Williams is represented by David R. Aden of the New Orleans-based Law Office of David Aden, LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division L Judge Kern A. Reese.

Case no. 2012-07375.
