NEW ORLEANS – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing LSU Urgent Care, several relative entities and the Louisiana State Department of Health and Hospitals.
Laurie Tschirn claims that an employee of LSU Urgent Care instructed her to sit in an expandable wheelchair, later found to be improperly expanded by the employee, resulting in her amputating a significant portion of her little finger.
Tschirn also names Interim LSU Public Hospital, Medical Center of New Orleans, Louisiana State Department of Health and Hospitals and Jane Doe in the suit filed in the Orleans Parish Central District Court on Aug. 3.
The defendant is accused of negligence, inattention, failure to properly perform duties and failure to insure the wheelchair was fully expanded and locked.
An unspecified amount is sought for all damages including, but not exclusively, mental anguish, medical expenses and loss of wages.
The plaintiff is represented by Attorney Jack Dunn.
The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Tiffany G. Chase.
