Taxi driver sues City of New Orleans claiming it wrongly revoked his license

Aubrey Harris

New Orleans – A former taxi cab driver is suing the City of New Orleans and a local bureau claiming they violated city codes by revoking his driver's license.

Terroll Johnson filed a lawsuit against the city of New Orleans and the Department of Safety and Permits Taxi Cab and For Hire Vehicle Bureau on Aug. 17 in the Orleans Parish Central District Court. The plaintiff claims that the defendants revoked his license on claims of conviction of several federal offenses for which he was unable to contest.

According to the brief, the date in which he was noted of the hearing to revoke his license was too short of notice to hire counsel for his defense. He asserts he was never convicted of any federal offenses and the procedure the bureau followed, in failing to provide sufficient evidence of his alleged convictions, was unlawful and violated N.O. City Codes 162-241 through 162-243.

The defendant is accused of not following procedure in ruling to revoke his license.

The plaintiff is seeking reversal of the ruling or that the case be remanded to the bureau.

Johnson is represented by Aubrey Harris of Kennedy Harris LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Paulette R. Irons.

Case no. 2012-08095.
