GRETNA – A homeowner is suing a shoring company for injuries she claims to have received in a fall on temporary steps they installed at her home.
Barbara LaMothe filed suit against Elevations Shoring, LLC and Companion Specialty Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on Oct. 30.
LaMothe claims she entered into a contract to elevate her Marrero home and that in the course of doing so the company installed temporary steps and handrails. The plaintiff alleges that as she was entering her home the temporary steps and handrails shifted and she fell between the steps and porch. LaMothe asserts that she injured her leg, right arm and lower back in the fall.
The defendant is accused of failing to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of those present, failing to warn that the steps and handrail were not secured, failing to build proper and safe temporary steps, failing to properly secure the steps, failing to build the temporary structure within applicable building codes, failing to provide safe entrance and exit from the home and leading the plaintiff to believe the steps were safe and sound for use.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, permanent disability and medical expenses.
