GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish couple is suing the parish’s water department for damages they claim occurred at their home due to an overflowing toilet that inundated their home with sewage.
Linda Morovich, and husband Anthony D. Bonura, filed suit against Parish of Jefferson and Jefferson Parish Department of Water in the 24th Judicial District Court on Jan. 24.
Morovich and Bonura claim that on Jan. 24, 2012 they noticed a large amount of sewage water on their kitchen floor and discovered it had come from an over flowing toilet. The plaintiffs allege the sewage water backflowing out of the toilet was due to the negligence of Jefferson Parish Department of Water. Morovich and Bonura assert the sewage water covered the majority of the carpeting in their home and was absorbed into the walls of several rooms, which required removal.
The defendant is accused of failing to maintain the sewerage pipes, allowing an adverse condition to exist and failing to inspect the sewerage lines.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for costs of repairs to the premises.
The plaintiffs are represented by Mark Bonura of Metairie-based Corona & Bonura LLP.
The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robert A. Pitre Jr.
