NEW ORLEANS – An anesthesiologist formerly employed by a local university hospital is suing the medical facility after his employment was terminated and the cause of his termination was allegedly suppressed.

Joseph Koveleskie M.D. filed a lawsuit against HCA Physician Services Inc. and the Administrators of the Tulane Educational Fund and Tulane University Hospital and Clinic in the Orleans Parish Central District Court on Jan. 21.

Koveleskie claims that after being asked to amend his employment agreement to include a “no cause” provision, meaning he could be fired without cause or in instances of natural disasters, he showed concern for the new clause in the agreement. The plaintiff asserts he was assured by TUHC’s CEO that he would not be fired. Shortly after he amended, he was fired.

The defendant is accused of breach of oral contract, breach of written contract, fraud and detrimental reliance.

An unspecified amount is sought for loss of earning, loss of financial assets and reimbursements, damage to business reputation, emotional distress and all legal costs.

The plaintiff is represented by Charles M. Thomas of Huber, Slack, Houghtaling, Pandit & Thomas LLP.

This case has been assigned to Division N Judge Ethel S. Julien.
