GRETNA – A Destrehan woman is suing a Jefferson Parish hospital for injuries she claims to have received when she fainted and fell due to a hot environment in the hospital caused by a lack of a functioning air conditioner.

Jodi Marie Scaffidi filed suit against Ochsner Medical Center in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 7.

Scaffidi claims she was in the emergency room visiting her grandmother who had been in a car accident and at the time the air conditioning unit in the facility was being repaired. The plaintiff alleges she began to feel hot and fanned herself before stepping out of the room and that when she returned to the room she fainted and hit her head on a chest of drawers. Scaffidi asserts she was admitted to the hospital after the fall with headaches and neck pain.

The defendant is accused of not providing a safe environment for patients.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, pain and suffering, inconvenience, anxiety and loss of enjoyment of life.

Scaffidi is represented by J. Michael Daly Jr. of Metairie-based Walker Daly LLP.

The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Michael P. Mentz.

Case no. 723-689.
