GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish man is suing an oil corporation and a pipe cleaning company for radiation exposure injuries he claims to have received.
Johnnie Louis Caston Sr. filed suit against Exxon Mobil Corporation, Exxon Mobil Oil Corporation, Chevron USA Inc. and Intracoastal Tubular Services Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 19.
Caston claims that he worked for drilling tube cleaners from 1976 to 1980 and was exposed to radioactive materials that he breathed in during his employment. The plaintiff alleges he was never alerted during his employment that he was handling radioactive materials.
The defendant is accused of failing to warn of the danger, failing to supervise operations of pipe cleaning contractors, failing to properly warn and advise of the hazardous materials in violation of their contract, failing to properly test pipes for hazardous materials, failing to dispose properly of hazardous waste, failing to place marking identification on the contaminated pipe, failing to prevent access to contaminated work areas and acting in a careless and negligent manner.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, mental pain and suffering, physical pain and suffering, increased risk of cancer, fear of developing cancer, medical monitoring, increased probability of developing cancer and fear of cancer.
