Couple sues credit bureaus over allegedly inaccurate credit reports

NEW ORLEANS - A St. John the Baptist Parish couple has filed a lawsuit against three credit bureaus for allegedly violating the Fair Credit Reporting Act by preparing their credit reports containing inaccurate information.

Frank Puglia and Shae Puglia filed suit against Equifax Information Services, Experian Information Solutions Inc., and Trans Union on March 14 in federal court in New Orleans.

The defendants are accused of preparing reports on the plaintiffs that contain inaccurate information, including information that belongs to an individual named John Puglia.

The defendants are accused of negligence and willful noncompliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

The lawsuit is seeking an award of actual damages for economic loss, denial of credit, lost opportunity to receive credit, damage to reputation, invasion of privacy, emotional distress, and interference with plaintiff’s normal and usual activities, punitive damages, attorney’s fees, and court costs.

The plaintiffs are represented by Marc R. Michaud of Patrick Miller LLC in New Orleans.  A jury trial is requested.

U.S. District Judge Stanwood R. Duval Jr. is assigned to the case.
