NEW ORLEANS – The mother of a student who was allegedly injured on the premises of a local high school is suing.
Vanessa Mitchell, individually and on behalf of her minor child, filed a lawsuit against The International High School of New Orleans on March 13 in the Orleans Parish Central District Court.
The suit claims that a door shattered and caused severe lacerations to the student's hand. The alleged injury resulted in plaintiff receiving stitches and requiring surgical intervention.
The defendant is accused of failing to fix a cracked broken glass contained in the door and creating an unreasonable risk of harm to students entering through the doorway.
An unspecified amount is sought for the injury to plaintiff’s hand, permanent loss of motion in hand, scarring, mental and physical pain and suffering, medical expenses and permanent disability.
The plaintiff is represented by Blaine M. Herbert of Marrero-based Herbert Law Firm LLC.
This case has been assigned to Division A Judge Tiffany G. Chase.
Case no. 2013-02492.
