Hyatt Regency Hotel sued after woman falls on escalator

Abramson

NEW ORLEANS – A Walnut, Calif. woman is suing a international hotel chain claiming she and her husband were not offered help with their bags, which contributed to her falling on an escalator.

Nancy Huang, and husband William, filed a lawsuit against Poydras Properties Hotel Holdings Co. LLC, Industrial Development Board of the City of New Orleans Louisiana Inc., Hyatt Louisiana LLC and Hyatt Corporation in the Orleans Parish Central District Court on March 13.

Huang claims that on direction from the defendants she and her husband proceeded to take an escalator two floors up and then an elevator to their designated suite. The suit claims that the couple was not afforded the help of bell hops to carry their luggage which resulted in the weight and awkwardness of Huang’s wheeled luggage bag causing her to fall backwards on the escalator and violently strike various parts of her body.

The plaintiff states that her incurred damages of medical expenses, loss of enjoyment of life, loss of diamond earring, loss of consortium/companionship and disability exceeds $50,000.

David A. Abramson of Lewis, Kullman, Sterbcow & Abramson will represent Huang in court.

This case has been assigned to Division M Judge Paulette R. Irons.

Case no. 2013-2445.
