GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing a local school district for injuries she alleges her son received when we tripped over a hose at recess.
Latoya D. Cooper, individually and as administrator and natural tutrix of her minor son, filed suit against Jefferson Parish School Board in the 24th Judicial District Court on April 1. Cooper claims on April 12, 2012 her then 14-year-old son was a student at Ralph J. Bunch Middle School located at 8101 Simon St. when he tripped over a hose in the school’s recess area and fell to the ground. The plaintiff alleges her son received severe and disabling injuries in the fall, including a fractured collarbone.
The defendant is accused of creating and allowing a dangerous condition on their premises, failing to warn students of the danger, failing to provide students with a safe facility for recess and failing to properly supervise children during recess.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, emotional distress, inconvenience and mental anguish.

The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Walter J. Rothschild.
