GRETNA – A New Orleans woman is suing a Jefferson Parish hospital for injuries she claims to have received in an incident in an elevator on their premises.

Elaine Poillion filed suit against Jefferson Parish Hospital District No. 1, West Jefferson Medical Center and Thyssenkrupp Elevator Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on April 2. Poillion claims she was going to see her physician at the West Jefferson Medical Center located at 1111 Medical Center Blvd. in Marrero. The plaintiff alleges she was using a four-wheeled walker at the time and had to take the elevator because she was going to the eighth floor of the hospital. Poillion asserts that as she entered the elevator the door closed on her and knocked her to the ground. The plaintiff claims she received severe injuries in the fall including a fractured hip that required surgery.

The defendant is accused of improper and faulty installation of the elevator, failing to properly inspect and maintain the elevator, failing to discover defects and repair them and negligent repair.

Damages in excess of $50,000 are sought for medical expenses, pain and suffering, disfigurement, loss of use of function, residual disability and loss of enjoyment of life.

Poillion is represented by David Greenberg of Gretna-based Greenberg & Lapeyronnie LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Raymond S. Steib Jr.

Case no. 725-452.
