Health club sued by man who allegedly suffered weight lifting injury

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish man is suing a local health club after he received serious injuries in a weight lifting accident.

Anthony Davis filed suit against French Riviera Health Spa Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on April 11.

Davis claims he was a customer at French Riviera Health Spa when he was doing full leg squats on a weight lifting machine. The plaintiff alleges that the bar was too high for him so he lowered it and thought he had it locked into place when it fell on his shoulder.

Davis asserts that his left ankle was broken and his right ankle was badly sprained in the incident. The plaintiff claims that decals on the machine showing how to use it properly and providing warnings were missing or badly defaced.

The defendant is accused of failing to properly instruct customers and members regarding the particular characteristics of the weight lifting machine, failing to properly train customers how to safely set up weight lifting machine, failing to warn customers and the inherent dangers of he machine, failing to replace the warning decals and failing to instruct the plaintiff on the proper setting of safety stops.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, mental anguish, permanent damage, disability, permanent loss of bodily function, medical expenses and loss of earnings.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Stephen C. Grefer.
