GRETNA – A home elevation company is being sued by the owners of a home it allegedly damaged during an elevation job.

Florence Scott and Ben Beverly filed suit against Gulf State Contractors LLC in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 10.

The plaintiffs claim they signed a contract with Gulf State Contractors to elevate their property located on South Dells Street in Harvey. The plaintiffs claim that during the elevation significant damage was done to their home including breaking concrete structures throughout the property, leaving their garage unfinished and open allowing unsecured access to the home, leaving the floors unlevel and compromised, damaging wall framing, causing major damage to exterior brick walls, leaving trash and debris throughout the property and causing substandard plumbing and electrical equipment to be installed. Scott and Beverly assert that they asked Gulf State Contractors to repair the damages, but the company refused.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract, performing work in a substandard manner, failing to complete work in a timely manner and causing plaintiffs to live for months in an unsecured construction zone.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for embarrassment, humiliation, pain, suffering, emotional distress, mental anguish and health problems.

The plaintiffs are represented by attorney Chad B. Ham of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Scott U. Schlegel.
