NEW ORLEANS - A surgical technician has filed a racial discrimination lawsuit claiming she was terminated for complaining about the failure to receive differential pay.

Lordez Lewis filed suit against Terrebonne General Medical Center on June 20 in federal court in New Orleans.

The defendant is accused of discriminating against the defendant because of her race, African American, when it unlawfully failed to provide Lewis with differential pay to Caucasian surgical technicians who were less or equally qualified as Lewis. After making numerous complaints regarding differential pay, Lewis was terminated on Nov. 7, 2012 for alleged insubordination and disrespectful conduct toward management. Lewis claims the termination was in retaliation and was in direction violation of her civil rights.

The plaintiff is seeking an award of damages for lost wages, benefits, compensatory and punitive damages, attorney’s fees, and court costs.

Lewis is represented by Gonzales attorney Anthony Marshall. A jury trial is requested.

U.S. District Judge Helen G. Berrigan is assigned to the case.
