GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish car dealership is suing the architect who designed and oversaw the construction of its new sales showroom after it allegedly sprung several leaks and showed other signs of defects.
Leson Chevrolet Company Inc. filed suit against Fauntleroy Latham Weldon Barre Architects in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 6.
Leson Chevrolet Company Inc. claims it entered into an agreement with Latham Weldon Barre Architects to design and oversee the building of a new sales showroom. The plaintiff alleges that after the showroom was built a number of defects became apparent including water intrusion into showroom offices, leaking and dripping from the Chevrolet arch, water intrusion entering the showroom from exterior doors, defects in the concrete pavement around the showroom and over capacity and over efficiency of the air conditioning unit.
Leson Chevrolet Company Inc. asserts that the work completed by Latham Weldon Barre Architects is not in accordance with terms and conditions of the contract, however, a certificate of substantial completion was signed without identifying the defects. The plaintiff claims that due to the defendant signing the certificate Leson may have lost its right to have the price of the contract with the builder reduced.
The defendant is accused of breach of contract and breach of professional duty.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for loss of rights.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robert A. Pitre Jr.
