GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing a local hospital after she alleges she was injured on their premises when she tripped while stepping out of an elevator.

Marguerite Steptor filed suit against East Jefferson General Hospital Foundation, Jefferson Parish Hospital District #2, Parish of Jefferson, State of Louisiana, East Jefferson General Hospital and KONE Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 14.

Steptor claims that on June 14, 2012, she was in the East Jefferson Hospital Profession Building for an appointment and that as she was exiting the elevator she tripped on the threshold and fell to the floor. The plaintiff alleges that the trip was due to the elevator not stopping evenly with the floor. Steptor asserts she was injured in the incident.

The defendant is accused of failing to take reasonable precautions, failing to exercise reasonable care, failing to use ordinary care and faulty equipment.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, pain and suffering and mental anguish.

Steptor is represented by attorney Eugene P. Redmann of Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Michael P. Mentz.

Case no. 727-997
