GRETNA – An East Baton Rouge couple are suing a Jefferson Parish store where their daughter was shopping when she was allegedly struck in the head by a falling sign.
Latrelle and Tiffany Skinner on behalf of their minor child filed suit against Frank Abarca and Fashions in Jewelry in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 1.
The Skinners claim their daughter was shopping in the Fashions in Jewelry store when a sign toppled off a display case and hit her in the head. The plaintiffs claim their daughter’s forehead was cut open in the incident and required stitches to close the wound.
The defendant is accused of failing to maintain the premises, failing to properly secure the sign and negligence.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, pain and suffering and permanent scarring.
The Skinners are represented by attorney J. William Starr of Metairie.
The case has been assigned to Division H Judge Glenn B. Ansardi.
Case no. 728-494.
