Mom sues daycare after her ankle was allegedly slammed in a door

GRETNA – A local daycare center is being sued by a mother who was in the process of dropping her children off and was allegedly injured when her ankle was slammed in the facility’s door.

Lonnice Cooper filed suit against Kitada Inc., Big Bird Academy, Kristina Le Aka,  Kristina Vu and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 2. 

Cooper claims that she was dropping her child off at Big Bird Academy located at 6101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero when the door closed forcefully behind her while her ankle was still in the threshold. The plaintiff alleges that the incident resulted in serious injuries that required immediate medical treatment.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain control of their property, failing to exercise reasonable care and failing to act as a prudent or reasonable person.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering and mental anguish.

Cooper is represented by attorney J.C. Lawrence of New Orleans-based J.C. Lawrence & Associates.

The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Stephen D. Enright Jr.
