Woman sues after delayed diagnosis allegedly results in hysterectomy, stroke

GRETNA – A woman who showed up at an emergency room with internal bleeding and her health rapidly declining until she had a hysterectomy followed by a stroke.

Ashika Rogers Lloyd, and her husband Rory, filed suit against Ochsner Medical Center – Westbank LLC, any and all employees of Ochsner Medical Center – Westbank LLC, any and all contract healthcare service providers of Ochsner Medical Center–Westbank LLC, Dr. Daniel J. Mompoint, Dr. Louis Glade, Dr. Nagarajan Chandrasekaran, Louisina Medical Mutual Insurance Co. and any other unknown insurers in the 24th Judicial District Court on Aug. 20.

Lloyd claims she was admitted to Ochsner Medical Center emergency room on Jan. 14, 2008, complaining of abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding. The plaintiff alleges she was treated by Dr. Mompoint who removed part of the lining of her uterus in an attempt to stop the bleeding.

The plaintiff alleges after the procedure she began to experience cardiac changes that were treated by Dr. Glade and she was placed on a ventilator and given blood products and medicine to treat blood pressure abnormalities by Dr. Nagarajan.

Lloyd asserts her condition worsened until doctors did exploratory abdominal surgery and found her uterus had ruptured and immediately performed a hysterectomy. After the procedure, the plaintiff alleges she was placed in the intensive care unit, but experienced restlessness, vomiting, low oxygen saturations and elevation in blood pressure, and eventually, low oxygen saturation followed by a stroke.

The defendant is accused of medical malpractice, of not confirming that physicians carried malpractice insurance and not checking employee history.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical bills, loss of consortium, disability, mental pain and suffering, physical pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, disfigurement, medical expenses and loss of income.

Lloyd is represented by attorney Allan Berger of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division P Judge Lee. V. Faulkner Jr.
