Contractor sued for allegedly not completing home repairs from Hurricane Isaac damage

Breach of contract

GRETNA – A contractor is being sued by a homeowner couple who claims he did not properly finish a job.

Edward A. and Lori Adams filed suit against Lee Chandler, individually and as the authorized representative of 1-800-Roof-Plus LLC in the 24th Judicial District Court on August 27.

The Adamses claim that they contracted with Chandler and 1-800-Roof-Plus LLC to provide repairs to their home located at 1712 Heatherwood Drive in Harvey following damage from Hurricane Isaac. The plaintiffs allege that the repairs were scheduled to begin on Feb. 12 and were later changed to include additional flooring to the home for a total contract worth $73,052.28.  The plaintiffs assert they made a $5,000 deposit when they signed the contract and later made payment with three personal checks to Chandler for a total of $36,526.14.  The plaintiffs claim the defendants did not properly complete the job and did inadequate work on their home.

The defendant is accused of failing to properly remove mold from the home, failing to adequately assess the level of toxic mold, failing to warn homeowners of levels of toxic mold, failing to properly repair roof, failing to order and replace carpets, failing to detach and replace chandelier, failing to paint the entire home, failing to use scaffolding according to contract, failing to hang doors, failing to use blown-in insulation, failing to replace crown molding, damage to wood floors and carpet, damage to door casing, failing to reconnect all electronics properly and conducting defective worksmanship.

An unspecified amount indamages is sought for termination of the contract, return of all funds expended, economic damages, return of amounts paid for work not performed, amounts paid to correct faulty worksmanship, cost to hire new contractor, mental anguish, emotional distress, inconvenience, loss of use of home, reimbursement for hotel stay and attorney’s fees.

The case has been assigned to Division P Judge Lee V. Faulkner Jr.
