Owners of Buffalo Wild Wings sued after sign falls on neighboring building

GRETNA – The owner of commercial building in Metairie is suing the owners of a nearby property after a large sign fell on their and severely damaged it.

Dolores Craven filed suit against LCS Investments LLP, Severn and Veterans LLC, MFWMD LLC, Paoli LLC, Gerald Wasserman, Michael F. Wasserman M.D., Lawrence E. Chahardy, Carolyn Chehardy and Susan M. Chehardy in the 24th Judicial District Court on Aug. 27.

Craven, who owns a commercial building located at 3500 Veterans Blvd. in Metairie,  claims the defendants are the owners of a neighboring piece of property  that was formerly a Bennigan’s, but is now a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant. The plaintiff alleges that the a large sign atop a tall post on the defendants’ property, adjacent to theirs, fell on their building causing severe property damage. Craven asserts that the defendants knew the bolts affixing the sign to the ground were rusted out.

The defendant is accused of allowing a defect to hurt their neighbor’s property, not exercising reasonable care and damaging the plaintiff’s property.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for lost rent, repair costs, reimbursement of increased insurance premiums and diminution in property value.

Craven is represented by Matthew F. Morgan of New Orleans-based Gieger, Laborde & Laperouse LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Raymond S. Steib Jr.
